The Cogitamus team is praised in a new book entitled “Victory Against All The Odds: The story of how the campaign to stop a third runway at Heathrow was won”.

The book – authored by HACAN Chair John Stewart – describes the multi-stranded campaign of the communities affected by the proposed new runway which led ultimately to its cancellation earlier this year.

Cogitamus was retained by HACAN for two periods during the campaign, and was tasked in particular with mustering opposition the the proposed expansion within the Labour Government of the time. The book praises our achievements in helping to organise a significant rebellion amongst backbench Labour MPs, and in reaching out to the trades union movement.

The full text of John Stewart’s fascinating account may be downloaded from the HACAN website.

Cogitamus Limited today announced the signing of Garvan Walshe as its new Associate Consultant.

Garvan joins Cogitamus after establishing a distinguished track record as a Conservative Party thinker on environmental issues and foreign policy. He has previously served on David Cameron’s policy review and as the Conservative Party’s National and International Security Policy Adviser.

Mark Walker, Managing Director of Cogitamus said: “We are delighted to welcome Garvan Walshe to our team. Cogitamus and our clients are already benefiting from the insights that he is able to provide into modern Conservative philosophy and policy. Garvan’s strong interest in environmental and sustainability issues also sits well with the kind of assignments undertaken by Cogitamus.”

Garvan began working with Cogitamus in May following the election to Parliament of former Cogitamus Senior Consultant Emma Reynolds. This news release provides an opportunity for the Cogitamus team to wish Emma every success as Labour Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton North East.

“Cogitamus are a pleasure to work with both on a professional and personal basis. We have been immensely impressed with the quality of advice and assistance we have received. They quickly grasped the essentials of the challenge facing our company and industry. They then were able to communicate highly complex technical and commercial issues through methods and language with which decision-makers and parliamentarians could readily engage and understand. Their knowledge of the inner workings of the corridors of power and their ability to predict and influence the likely behaviours of key decision-makers across all the political parties and within the senior civil service constantly amaze us. At times, they have seemed like chess grandmasters, working 3 steps ahead of the game. They have not been afraid to challenge us when they thought it necessary, nor to offer calm reassurance and wisdom to our senior management when required. But they also have had the integrity to listen to us when we explained the day to day realities of our industry. We would not hesitate for one moment to recommend their services to any company looking for first class, impartial, committed, professional and experienced advice or advocacy.”

I’ve been involved in public sector communications for 20 years and MAGIC is what I have always wanted. I can honestly say – hand on heart – that I’ve never seen anything like it before and my team certainly wouldn’t be without it. I’m a huge fan….MAGIC is unique in that it brings the vast amount of knowledge available into one place and then homes in on our priorities and its view of the world. It puts our specific world into the palm of our managers’ hands

Cogitamus has provided efficient and effective support supplementing our own public affairs capability at a time of intense activity. We have always found Mark Walker and his team to be professional and quick to respond to our needs, providing an impressive bespoke service. Their excellent Westminster contacts and informed counsel have proved to be an invaluable resource. We would have no hesitation in working with Cogitamus in the future or, indeed, in recommending their services to other organisations.
